Walnut Creek Optometry Group
Vision Therapy
Offered at our Walnut Creek office and led by Dr. Kathryn Johnson, OD. Vision therapy is a supervised program of activities that improves how the brain and eyes work together — useful for issues that glasses or contact lenses alone do not correct.
What's included
- Convergence insufficiency
- Amblyopia (lazy eye)
- Strabismus
- Visual processing concerns
- Reading and learning-related vision issues
- Post-concussion vision rehabilitation
When vision therapy makes a difference
Some visual concerns aren't about acuity — they're about how the two eyes coordinate, how steadily the eyes focus, or how the brain processes what it sees. Glasses and contacts can sharpen the image but can't retrain how the visual system works. That's where therapy comes in.
What a typical program looks like
Therapy is in-office, hands-on, and individualized. We start with a thorough binocular assessment, then design a sequence of exercises that target the underlying problem. Sessions are weekly with at-home reinforcement. Progress is re-measured periodically so the program adapts as the patient improves.
