Specialty Contact Lenses
When standard contact lenses aren't an option — irregular corneas, advanced dry eye, or post-surgical eyes — a specialty fit is the difference between blurred discomfort and stable, comfortable vision.
What's included
- Scleral lenses for keratoconus
- Scleral lenses for severe dry eye and exposure keratitis
- Scleral lenses for corneal scarring and post-transplant eyes
- Multifocal rigid gas permeable (RGP) lenses
- Custom toric and hybrid designs
- Trial lens fittings with follow-up at one week, one month, and beyond
What scleral lenses are
Scleral lenses are larger than regular contacts. Instead of resting on the cornea, they vault over it and land softly on the white of the eye (the sclera). The extra size makes them easier to handle, more stable on the eye, and far less likely to dislodge. They're rigid gas permeable, so oxygen still reaches the cornea — and the space between lens and cornea holds a thin reservoir of fluid that keeps dry eyes comfortable for hours.
Sizes we fit
- Full scleral — the largest design, with the most clearance over the cornea; lands on the outer sclera.
- Mini scleral — a mid-size option that lands on the anterior sclera.
- Semi-scleral — larger than a standard contact but smaller than a true scleral, landing at the corneal-scleral junction.
Who benefits most
- Keratoconus and other irregular corneas — sharper, more reliable vision than glasses or soft lenses can deliver.
- Severe dry eye or exposure keratitis — the fluid reservoir keeps the surface moist all day.
- Post-corneal-transplant or post-refractive-surgery eyes that don't tolerate regular lenses.
