Dr. Bach-Kim Nguyen, OD
Dr. Nguyen was born in Vietnam. She grew up during the Vietnam War in a family of ten children. After the communist government took away her dream of becoming a medical doctor, she escaped from Vietnam, alone, seeking freedom and a medical career. She was rescued by the U.S. Navy, and as a result, she was allowed to settle in the United States as a refugee. She spent the next thirteen years in the U.S. learning English and getting a first class education.
She completed liberal art studies at City College of San Francisco, finished a Bachelor Degree in Biochemistry from University of California at Davis, and achieved a Bachelor Degree in Visual Science and a Doctor of Optometry Degree, both from the University of California at Berkeley. After practicing for many different commercial and private optometry and ophthalmology practices, Dr. Nguyen purchased Walnut Creek Optometry Group in 1997 and Dr. Lyn Owens's practice in 2002 and merged the two together. In 2003 Dr. Nguyen obtained a 25 year old practice in Vallejo from Dr. Bernard Deschuytter and invited Drs. Wong, Day, and Jones to work with her in the Vallejo Optometry Group practice. Dr. Nguyen practices the full scope of optometry and has experience in comprehensive eye examinations, all advanced contact lens fittings, eye disease treatment, visual efficiency and perceptual examinations, vision therapy, and co-manages for laser vision correction (LASIK, PRK), cataract surgery, and glaucoma. Along with having excellent clinical skills, Dr. Nguyen also has great people skills. She is extremely sensitive to patients needs and concerns. She has a warm personality, a good sense of humor, and a truly caring attitude. Patients can really tell how much she loves her work! |
Dr. Katie johnson, OD
Dr. Johnson (formerly Dr. Boe) is an East Bay native. She graduated from UC Davis with a Bachelor’s in Science and from UC Berkeley with a Doctorate of Optometry. She then completed a residency in Binocular Vision and Pediatrics at UC Berkeley. Her first love in Optometry is pediatrics, vision therapy and helping children with learning difficulties. More recently, she is passionate about dry eye treatment, ophthalmic lens design and trouble-shooting soft contact lenses, especially multi-focal lenses.
Dr. Johnson also practices in Livermore and is an Assistant Clinical Professor at the UC Berkeley School of Optometry. Dr. Johnson has two children and is active in the Livermore community, serving as a Girl Scout and Care Ministry volunteer. |
dr. payal bavishi, OD
Dr. Bavishi was born in India, and moved to the Bay Area in 2006 with her family. She grew up in Fremont, California since then. Dr. Bavishi earned her degree of Bachelor of Science in Physiology from San Francisco State University, California in 2013. She earned her Doctor of Optometry degree from MCPHS University - School of Optometry in Massachusetts. She speaks English, Gujarati and Hindi fluently. Dr. Bavishi joined Walnut Creek Optometry Group in August of 2018. She loves taking care of her patients, and enjoys forming a special bond with each patient. Dr. Bavishi practices full scope optometry, which includes comprehensive eye examination for all ages, fitting all types of contact lenses, glaucoma treatment, dry, allergic and infectious eye diseases, age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy etc. In her free time, Dr. Bavishi enjoys dancing, traveling new places and exploring different cultures, hiking, and cooking. Currently, she is enjoying learning guitar in her free time. |
dR. MILES SABATINI, OD
Dr. Miles Sabatini, O.D. is the newest associate doctor and a proud graduate of UC Berkeley School of Optometry, class of 2020. Originally from Detroit, Michigan, he completed his undergrad degree in Southern California, a BA in biology - then moved to the East Bay which he now calls home. Dr. Sabatini has experience working in a medical eye care setting, having worked with an ophthalmologist that specializes in glaucoma management and cataract surgery in addition to clinical experience at Kaiser Optometry, Marin Community Clinics and various private practice optometry offices throughout the Bay Area.
Dr. Sabatini enjoys working with specialty and everyday contact lenses as well as treating and managing glaucoma, managing cataracts, macular degeneration and diabetic eye care. In addition, he co-manages care for post-operative laser vision correction (LASIK, PRK), cataract surgery, and glaucoma. He is driven to provide comprehensive eye care at a high level with a personalized approach to each individual patient. In his free time, Dr. Sabatini likes to spend time with his two cats – Mingus and Django. He enjoys hiking, reading, exploring art museums, and playing video games and boardgames with friends. |
